Mass Intentions
What is a Mass Intention? If you look on the Mass Times you will see that there are names of people underneath the time of the Mass. This is the Priest's Intention for the Mass and it means that someone has asked that a mass be said for this person; sometimes it is because the person has died or it is the anniversary of their death. Sometimes, it is because the person is ill has a special intention; and sometimes it is because of a birthday, wedding anniversary or another occasion.
So who can ask for a Mass? Anyone! How? Write the Mass Intention on a piece of paper - such as "Please say a Mass for..." you can put down a date when you would like the Mass said, however it may not be possible on the exact date. Remember, other people will be asking for Masses and may ask for the same date! How much? There is no set amount and you do not 'pay' for the Mass to be said. It is an offering of thanksgiving. The Mass Intention is printed in the Newsletter because other people may not have an intention of their own, so they may wish to share the Priest's Intention.
